I am obese and desperately want to lose weight. I had an accident in July where I almost had to have my foot amputated and have been in a wheelchair ever since.
I have started a diet, but it is all so overwhelming. I have no willpower but I want it. I need to know anything about what to do when I want to overeat.
Being in this chair is stressing me out! I eat out of boredom or no lack of willpower.
I used to be very pretty and now I feel so fat and ugly. I feel like there is no use dieting because no one wants me anymore.
It's been 8 years since my last boyfriend and I'm lonely.
Does anyone have any advice? No predators please.
Thank you.

Hm...
The world is obsessed with weight, for some reason, and it would seem everyone is dying to reduce down to their birth-weight.
What do you consider obese? Are your standards measured by the sick-looking waifs in the fashion magazines, or is this a judgement your physician has made of you?
One rule of thumb; if it does not nourish your body, do not eat it. If it does, have at it.
What boys find irresistable is a healthy self-confidence and a genuine smile. Perhaps this is more of your issue?
For the record, I am 20/M/Greater London, and am considered rather a 'hottie'. lol
Best of luck to you!

You're getting lots of Good Advice - here's my best.
One: Take up knitting. It'll keep your hands busy. Gives you something soft to hold, pretty to look at, and is soothingly repetative. I recommend chunky weigth (it's not that big, and it's really called that, no pun was intended) pink (your favorite happy color) wool. (cotton isn't as pleasant to work with). I am dead serious about this.
Two: Make nutrition a hobby. Before you eat anything, read the nutrition lable. If there's no lable, look it up on the 'net. How many calories, carbs, fat (animal? vegtable? saturated? not?) how much protien, how much fiber. You are what you eat! How could it be otherwise? This will slow you down and educate you, so you really know what you're doing, what you're putting in your furnace. Maybe you will decide not to eat whatever it is afterall! You don't have to set "total number goals" in these catagories, just avoid things that have more than 30 grams of carbohydrate or 10 grams of fat for a while. If that doesn't do it, cut those numbers back a bit. Being sedentary does make it tougher, but not at all impossible.
Meals: Always eat something when you wake up, to let your body know its not going to have to do without today, and it's safe to start burning. Protein (eggs, lox, cheese on whole wheat toast) will keep you satisfied the longest (due to blood sugar chemistry). A glass of V8 gets vegtables in you with no cooking! Eat when you're hungry, five times a day is okay, standard meal times (your sorrounding world's conventional times) aren't necessary, but consistancy does help. But don't eat those "big meal" quantities. Sometimes I spread my "food groups" out over the course of the day, instead of having all three at one meal.
Hope your foot mends fully. Eating well (lots of protein and vegetables) will certainly help it too. -

I must be stupid
Until yesterday I could get sound from Garrison Keillor's Writer's Almanac. Today, I only get a message that Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (hhttp) isn't associated with any program. I don't know what happened between yesterday and today that made my Real Player stop working. I have reinstalled it, but it still doesn't work.
Maybe this isn't the place to ask for help?

Water
I'd recommend drinking water as opposed to softdrinks and stuff, I don't know what your drinking habits are but that'll make a difference.
Also cut out sugary snacks and processed foods, they contain crap, eat fresh stuff when you can. Yea, I know, sounds like a bitch but eating fruit will make you look and feel great.
Apart from that just keep busy. I like to read, when I start a book I pretty much drop everything, including meals.
I didn't read all the other proposals but hope this helps :)

Regulate and watch your eating
I love food. No, I adore food!! But i'm 113lb and so paranoid that it's kept me from gaining much weight over the past few years.
What I do is
- Wait 5 to 6 hours between eating and then I have a sandwich or bagel or something no bigger than that.
- Try not to snack.
- Get a little exercise. I'm not one of those people who does anything special like surfing or ice skating, I just walk at college or take a walk a few times during the week.
- Look at yourself in the mirror (yes, it's a bit strange.. but...) When I do that, if I think I look a little, well, on the large side, I resolve to eat better to get rid of the weight. Been doing it for years.
- A salad a day. Or at least twice a week as one meal.
- Eat only when I'm hungry and not till I feel fat.
- Avoid hot chocolate, grape juice, other processed juices, and all milk but non-fat.
- Absorb myself in some activity I love, like writing, digital painting, and/or video games, etc.
- If in school (which I am. college), do lots of studying.
As that other person said, anything to keep you mind off food. I love it like crazy and I bake once a week or so, but I think so much about how I'm eating, what I'm eating, etc, that I don't over-eat.
You can do it!

Cheers.
I've lost 40 or so pounds before...and consequently, after several years (and moving to KS from NJ) managed to tack on not only the original 40 but and extra 20 as well. I understand what you're feeling: I know what I should be doing, as I've done it before...but I have no willpower!
That's what you need. Any diet (and by that I mean smaller portions and healthier foods, not cutting any food out) or exercise plan (isometrics is good and you don't have to move a lot) is just going to fail if you don't have the willpower.
Do you live with anyone at all? If so, ask them to help out! My hubby means well lately, but he's the problem I've had lately: I'm doing good for half a day and then he brings home a pizza. When I have pms. That's bad. ;_;
If not, and you're living the joy of single life...well, you can do it yourself. I know everyone can if I did. I'm a lazy butt in reality.
Get the willpower you need by finding your personal "trigger". Do you want to fit in a swimsuit, get a boyfriend, etc...and then place -physical- reminders of that -everywhere-. If it's the swimsuit, go buy just what you want, then tack one or two in various places. Like the fridge, etc...you know?
I have a list of stuff I shouldn't do right now, why I'll feel better and stuff on my fridge...and a picture of when I was thin, placed next to a new pic of myself. O_O That makes me hesitate, I can tell you.
Cheers though. I know you can, but it's going to be hard as heck.

if you really want to lose weight then just eat heakthy and excersise alot. but dont stop eating the things you love. you can eat junk food once or twice a month. if you dont loose weight through excersise and a healthy diet whatever you do you have to stay motivated.
