I need help now! by Godluvnlady

I am obese and desperately want to lose weight. I had an accident in July where I almost had to have my foot amputated and have been in a wheelchair ever since.

I have started a diet, but it is all so overwhelming. I have no willpower but I want it. I need to know anything about what to do when I want to overeat.

Being in this chair is stressing me out! I eat out of boredom or no lack of willpower.

I used to be very pretty and now I feel so fat and ugly. I feel like there is no use dieting because no one wants me anymore.

It's been 8 years since my last boyfriend and I'm lonely.

Does anyone have any advice? No predators please.

Thank you.

heartBREAK

For a year I had been searching for that one true love. I was very sure that I had found her when I dated Glo who happens to share many things in common with me. I laid my whole love in her and I was sure she loved me back. We were so happy together but only for a forthnight when she drew back for reasons unexplained. She left me burning with anxiety and obsession. She switched of her cell phone to date. The last thing she said was that I was not to blame but her past and that she would never forget me. What could have gone wrong? I am HEARTBROKEN!

burn more calories doing cardio at the right time...

Hi My name is Rouven and I am a personal Trainer in Toronto. I would like to give some avice how you can make your cardio training more effcient. First of all I would like to let you know that it is easy math to loose weight. If you burn more calories than you eat, you will loose weight. To burn more calories you need to be active, here is how you can do it the most efficient way:
When is the best time of day to do your aerobic exercise? The answer is any time! The most important thing is that you just do it. Continuous cardiovascular exercise, such as powerwalking, jogging, stairclimbing, biking etc.. If you keep it up for at least 30 minutes, this will burn body fat no matter what time of the day you do decide to do it. However, if you want to get the biggest bang for you buck, from every minute you put in your workouts, then getting out of bed early and doing your cardio before you eat your first meal is preferred - even if you're not a "morning person." Early morning aerobic exercise on an empty stomach has three major advantages over exercising later in the day: Early in the morning before you eat, your levels of muscle and liver glycogen (stored carbohydrate) are very low. If you eat dinner at 7 p.m and you eat breakfast at 7 a.m., that's 12 hours without food. During this 12-hour overnight fast, your levels of glycogen slowly decline to provide glucose for various bodily functions that go on even while you sleep. As a result, you wake up in the morning muscle glycogen levels are super low resulting in a lower blood sugar - the best scenario for burning stored fat instead of precious carbohydrate. How much more fat you'll burn nobody really knows, but research has shown that up to 300% more fat is used during exercise when cardio is done in a fasted, glycogen-depleted state.
So how exactly does this work? It's quite simple, really. Carbohydrate (glycogen) is your body's primary and preferred energy source. When your primary fuel source is in short supply, this forces your body to tap into its secondary or reserve energy source; body fat. If you do cardio immediately after eating a meal, you'll still burn fat, but you'll burn less of it because you'll be burning off the carbohydrates you ate first. You always burn a combination of fat and carbohydrate for fuel, but depending on when you exercise, you can burn a greater proportion of fat relative to carbohydrate. If doing cardio first thing in the morning is not an option for you, then the second best time to do it would be immediately after weight training. Lifting weights is anaerobic (carbohydrate-burning) by nature, and therefore depletes muscle glycogen. That's why a post lifting cardio session has a similar effect as morning cardio on an empty stomach.
The second benefit you'll get from early morning cardio sessions is what is called the "afterburn" effect. When you do a cardio session in the morning, you not only burn fat during the session, but you also continue to burn fat at an accelerated rate after the workout. Why? Because an intense session of cardiovascular exercise can keep your metabolism elevated for hours after the session is over. If you do cardio at night, you will still burn fat during the session, so you definitely benefit from it. However, night time cardio fails to take advantage of the "afterburn" effect because your metabolism drops like a ton of bricks as soon as you go to sleep. While you sleep, your metabolic rate is slower than any other time of the day.
Burning more fat isn't the only reason you should do your cardio early. The third benefit of morning workouts is the "rush" and feeling of accomplishment that stays with you all day long after an invigorating workout. Exercise can become a pleasant and enjoyable experience, but the more difficult or challenging it is for you, the more important it is to get it out of the way early. When you put off any task you consider unpleasant, it hangs over you all day long, leaving you with a feeling of guilt, stress and incompleteness (not to mention that you are more likely to "blow off" an evening workout if you are tired from a long day at work or if your pals try to persuade you to join them at the pub for happy hour.)
You might find it hard to wake up early in the morning and get motivated to workout. But think back for a moment to a time in your life when you tackled a difficult task and you finished it. Didn't you feel great afterwards? Completing any task, especially a physically challenging one, gives you a "buzz." When the task is exercise, the buzz is physiological and psychological. Physiologically, exercise releases endorphins in your body. Endorphins are opiate-like hormones hundreds of times more powerful than the strongest morphine. Endorphins create a natural "high" that makes you feel positively euphoric! Endorphins reduce stress, improve your mood, increase circulation and relieve pain. The "high" is partly psychological too. Getting up early and successfully achieving a small goal kick starts your day and gives you feelings of completion, satisfaction and accomplishment. For the rest of the day you feel happy and you feel less stress knowing that the most difficult part of the day is behind you.

weight watchers and exercise

i would look into weight watchers. you can do it online, including meetings which might help you control your urges, and if you use the flex plan you count points, not calories, and because of that you don't have to feel so incredibly restricted about what you can eat...you can even have a small treat here and there as long as you learn to control it. i would also recommend finding some sort of exercise you can do sitting down as your movement is restricted. maybe some very light hand weights that you could work with would be a great investment. also, though you can't walk, and i don't know what part of the country you live in and what sort of facilities are available to you, you could still get outside and move around in your wheelchair. i'm sure that having to propel yourself with your arms would burn quite a few calories, and if you can find a place - maybe a park that has a cement walker's/runner's trail or something like that - outside then you can enjoy the outdoors which will do wonders for your mood, not to mention that being physically active outside would probably make you feel more independent and free, and who knows? maybe you'll meet more people that way. above all, remember that all of us, no matter what situation we find ourselves in, struggle with will power and self-image, so you aren't alone. just don't give up and keep trying because you're worth it! if you want to talk more, feel free to ask! by the way, i'm on weight watchers right now and i really like it! it's very easy to use and seems to work....a friend of mine lost almost 100 pounds on it a few years ago.

I also gained weight

After undergoing chemo, I gained weight...go figure. We started an all natural diet (not vegeterian, just organic farm raised foods. I am also an avid outdoorsman and wild game is some of the healthiest food there is. Venison is 98% fat free. Drink lots of water and exercise daily, even if it's just a low paced walk. Step away from the computer! I have lost 20 pounds in 2 months (I wasn't obese, just a little pudgy) good luck to you and keep your spirits up.

God Bless,
Tim

holistic medicine?

Someone once told me that Hoodia works for losing weight. However, you have to check the label to make sure that it is certified by a third party because there were cases of diluted medicine with very little content of the actual plant.

What I tried.

I have thyroid DISEASE, something called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I was also extremely abused physically as a child.

Not recognizing exactly how much trauma this had all caused, I used Weight Watchers during my 20s. I lost weight and then put it back on. BUT -- BIG BUT - I learned some very sensible things about eating I still use to day. (like, drink PLENTY OF WATER!!

Then, I found out I have something that used to be referred to RAND. This is (mostly women) whose weight goes up and down. My weight would go from 109 to 172. Talk about a need for a huge closet of clothes!! I had a very poor body image. I come from a family of athletes, so for my disciplines I took up swimming long distances and doing yoga. I LOVE stretching. I love to get my blood pumping, even if I do NOT love to sweat.

Then I got into sensible cooking, big time. I was on a live food diet for five years. Don't knock it until you try it, because you will have LOTS of energy. But I got a bit ungrounded and went back to eating more animal protein.

Then I studied the effects of all the physical and sexual abuse. It wasn't surprising that when I "felt" unloved, I didn't WANT to know I was a woman!! So, I began studying the hidden history of women - the OTHER history books. I started keeping a journal. I whined in it, I cried in it, I made myself into someone I loved after a time ... I married mySELF and commited to making myself happy, if only a little bit each day.

Then I got consumed with being creative and took up the Artist's Way. I wrote the 3 pages a day. I learned about The Process. I composted all my experiences and seriously began to write ... about ALL my experiences.

I am a member of 12-step groups, and really believe in them. They are meant to foster real, unconditional love,; but the members really are not always very advanced. I had to learn to look at them ALL with my own eyes of love and dis-covered that every judgment I passed on them just reflected judgments I was passing on myself. Overeaters Anonymous is a great option; and Alanon is ONEderful. Nearly everyone has a friend or relative who is an alcoholic.

I have not consumed alcohol or drugs for decades. I like being able to think straight. One drawback to overeating is that you are consuming MASSIVE quantities of chemical enhancers. These days we are eating genetically modified food. It's like a POISON to our sensitive system. Just saying "listen to your body" aint' enough. We think of our bodies LAST, so many times.

By the time I turned 50, I was stretching all day, developing my own form of isometrics. I looked great and people suggested I work at Weight Watchers!!

I still have a weight "problem" - BUT I realize that this society makes WAY TOO MUCH out of women's images of their bodies. It's the beauty inside that counts. When I am feeling well (and I have fibromyalgia as well) - I find that I don't have those cravings, the obsession with food, the "bad" images of mySELF, when I am thinking of OTHERS. I can only love others as much as I love myself, so I just tell me all day long I am a wonderful creature, very accomplished and worthwhile. Going back to the unhappy person who thought she was an overweight sheep would certainly cramp my style!!

I wish you all the best.

This whole planet is healing and all the 6 billion people on it from SOMETHING. You aren't alone, you know! Reach out, find some friends and cheerleaders! And know, for real, that you ARE LOVED, no matter what; it's unconditional and free from the ONEiverse no matter what your size.
